The best free Instagram transcript tool in 2026 is Ziztu's Instagram Reel Transcript Generator: paste a public Reel link, get the words with a time on every line, and download .txt, .srt or .vtt. Captions a Reel already has are read free, with no sign-up. It reads the sound of the Reel when there are none, so a Reel with no captions still works, for a few credits shown before you start. Supadata, ScreenApp, Eden and Choppity are good alternatives, and ScreenApp or Choppity are the better pick when you have a long or private video to upload.

How do the five tools compare?
Every row below comes from the tool's own page, read on 2 November 2026.
| Tool | What you paste or upload | Free limits | Output formats | Sign-up needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ziztu | A public Reel link | Captions free, no account; speech to text uses credits, shown first; Reel up to 3 minutes | On screen, .txt, .srt, .vtt; times on or off | Only for speech to text |
| Supadata | A Reel or post link | Free web tool, rate limited; API tier has 100 free requests a month | Copy, TXT, SRT; timestamps toggle | No |
| ScreenApp | A public link, or an uploaded file for private videos | 2 transcriptions of recordings up to 45 minutes each | PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT, VTT | No, to try it |
| Eden | A Reel link | A fair-use limit, no number given | On screen, copy, .txt | No |
| Choppity | An uploaded video file or an Instagram video link | No limit stated on the page | Copy or download the text | No |
Two things show up in the table. First, link tools are the fastest, but they only read public videos. Second, tools that take an upload are slower, since you save the video first, but they work on anything you can save.
1. Ziztu: best free Instagram transcript tool for Reels
Ziztu's Reel transcript generator is built for one job: link in, words out. In Instagram, open the Reel, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste it, press Get transcript, and a Reel of up to 3 minutes comes back in a few seconds.
What puts it first:
- It works on Reels with no captions. The sound is turned into text with the Whisper large-v3 speech model, and music and sound effects are left out.
- A time on every line. You can see where the hook ends and when the call to action lands, or switch the times off for a clean block of text.
- A clear price. Captions a Reel already has are free. Turning the sound into text uses credits, shown before you start. A Reel someone already ran is instant.
- Three one-click follow-ups. Under the transcript, Ziztu writes a summary, five hooks for a new video on the same topic, or a caption you can post. Each reads only the text you got and uses a few credits, shown before you start.
- Privacy. The sound is read while the job runs and deleted when it ends. Only the finished text is kept, for 30 days.
Where it is weaker: it reads public Reels and public video posts only. Stories and private accounts need a login, so they are not supported, and Ziztu never asks for your Instagram login. For those, save the video and use the video to text converter, which takes files up to 10 minutes and 60 MB. Ziztu also does not label who is speaking, and it says loud music and heavy accents lower accuracy.
2. Supadata: best for developers who want an API
Supadata's Instagram transcript page has a free tool for one-off use. It takes instagram.com/reel/ and instagram.com/p/ links, says no account and no app installation are needed, and gives you the text to copy, a TXT file or an SRT file, with a timestamp toggle.
Its strengths are range and reach. The page says transcripts are generated from the audio in "100+ languages" with automatic detection. It also sells an API, with "100 free requests per month" and no card, which is the reason to pick it if you want to transcribe videos from your own code. The page says the web tool is rate limited so it stays available for everyone.
Compared with Ziztu: Supadata's page lists no .vtt file and no follow-up steps such as hooks or a caption. If you only need the words and maybe a developer API later, it is a solid choice.
3. ScreenApp: best for long files and private videos
ScreenApp's Instagram transcript page takes a public Reel, feed video or IGTV link, and it also takes an uploaded file, which is how you transcribe a private video or a Story you saved. It says no Instagram login is needed.
This is the tool to use when the video is long. The free tier says "2 transcriptions of recordings up to 45 minutes each", far past the 3 minute Reel limit on Ziztu's link tool. Exports are the widest on this list: PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT and VTT, with timestamps and speaker labels, and the page says it handles 100+ languages.
The trade-off is the count. Two free transcriptions is a small number if you study Reels every day, and the page says transcripts are not kept after processing unless you sign up. Its paid option lifts the per-recording limit.
4. Eden: best if you want to save and reuse what you find
Eden's Instagram transcript generator takes a Reel link, with no signup and no credit card. The transcript comes from the Reel's audio and you can read it on screen, copy it, download a .txt file, or get it by email with five post ideas.
Eden is also a place to keep what you find. The page describes saving reels with their transcripts, highlighting the best lines, drafting posts and scheduling them to X, LinkedIn, Threads, Instagram, TikTok and Substack. Its free plan includes 100 saved items and needs no card.
The limit on the page is described only as a fair-use limit per connection, with no number, and the page notes that music-only Reels and very long videos cannot be processed. It does not list .srt or .vtt downloads, so it is less useful for subtitles.
5. Choppity: best for uploading a file of any size
Choppity's Instagram video to transcript tool is an upload tool first. The page lists MP4 and MOV files up to 10GB, and an Instagram video link, with no sign-up and no card. It says it pulls the speech from the audio track and can isolate it from background music.
It is the right pick when the video is already on your computer: a Reel you posted, a Story you saved before it expired, or a long cut. The page states no limit on video length or number of transcriptions. You can copy or download the text. The page does not state a language list or a timestamp or subtitle format, so check the output before you plan on subtitles. The page says premium features sit on Choppity's main platform, so the free transcript tool is the entry point there.
How did we pick the best Instagram transcript tool?
This list is published on Ziztu's blog, so Ziztu is held to the same table as the rest. We ranked the tools on four things:
- Works without captions. Instagram gives out no transcript, so a tool has to read the audio.
- Limits and prices you can plan around. A stated number beats "fair use".
- Output you can use. Timestamps, .srt and .vtt for subtitles, a plain .txt for notes.
- Time from link to text. Fewer steps and no account.
For every tool, Ziztu included, we compared what its own page says, read on 2 November 2026; we did not run a test Reel through each one. Limits and features change, so check the page before you rely on a number. TurboScribe was on our shortlist, but its page would not load for us, so we left it out rather than guess.
Which tool should you pick?
- You have a public Reel link and want the words fast: Ziztu.
- You want subtitles from a Reel: Ziztu for .srt or .vtt, or the SRT generator for a file.
- You need an API: Supadata.
- The video is long, private or a saved Story: ScreenApp, Choppity, or Ziztu's video to text converter for files up to 10 minutes.
- You want to keep a swipe file and schedule posts: Eden.
Once you have the words, the useful step is to do something with them. Run the transcript through the video hook generator for ten new openers, or read the TikTok version of this list if you also work on TikTok. For a step by step guide on a single platform, see how to get the transcript of a TikTok video. Starter is $7 a month for 4,800 credits.
