How to describe a cartoon character

Cartoons read from far away. A good cartoon character can be recognized by its silhouette alone, so describe shapes, not only details.

  • Body shape sets the personality. Round shapes read as friendly and soft, square shapes as sturdy and stubborn, sharp triangles as fast, clever or villainous.
  • One stand-out detail. A bent ear, oversized boots, a scarf that is always too long. It makes the character memorable.
  • A pose with an attitude. "Arms crossed, chin up" or "tiptoeing with a guilty look" says more than "standing".
  • Two or three colors. Name the main colors so they stay simple and readable.

Pick the style for the job

The style changes more than the surface. A 3D animated movie look gives soft light and big eyes that suit mascots and family characters. Rubber hose gives bendy 1930s limbs and a retro mood. Comic book adds inked shadows and halftone dots for heroes and action. Flat vector strips everything back to clean shapes for icons and slides. Try the same description in two styles: it is the quickest way to find the right look.

From a still to a cartoon clip

A cartoon picture can be the first frame of an animated shot. Upload it to image to video, say what should move, such as "the dragon flaps its wings twice and lifts off the roof", and you get a 5 second clip in the same style. In Ziztu Studio you can build a whole cartoon short from many shots with the same character.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI cartoon generator free?

You can try it free. A new account gets 40 free trial credits, and one cartoon costs 3 credits, so that is about 13 images. Free trial images carry a small watermark. Plans start at $12 a month for 1,000 credits.

Can I turn a photo of myself into a cartoon?

Not on this page: it draws from your words. To redraw a photo of yourself as anime art, use the AI anime generator, which starts from your photo.

Can I use the cartoons commercially?

Images made with paid credits have no watermark, and every plan includes commercial use. Do not ask for characters, logos or trademarks that belong to someone else.

How do I keep the same cartoon character in several pictures?

Repeat the same short description every time: body shape, colors, clothes and one stand-out detail, such as "a round orange cat with a blue scarf and one bent ear". For a character who must stay exactly the same across a whole story, Ziztu Studio keeps a character sheet and uses it for every shot.

Can I make my cartoon move?

Yes. Download the picture and upload it to the image to video tool, then say what should move. It makes a 5 second clip that starts on your cartoon.

Which AI model draws the cartoons?

Meta Muse Image. It is quick and cheap, and it follows style words well. The style you pick is added to your words before the image is drawn.

About 3 credits per use. Free to try: new accounts get 40 free trial credits (480p video, watermarked). See plans and pricing for more detail.
