How it works

  1. 01

    Choose your video or audio

A file of up to 10 minutes and 60 MB: MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV or M4A.

  2. 02

    Press Make subtitles

The speech is turned into text with the Whisper model, split into lines with start and end times.

  3. 03

    Download the SRT or VTT

Choose Download, then Subtitles (.srt) or Web subtitles (.vtt). Read the lines once and fix any word.

What you get

Timing already set

Each subtitle starts and ends where the words are said, so the file lines up in your editor without a manual sync.

SRT and VTT

Download .srt for editors such as Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and YouTube, or .vtt for web players.

Free, no watermark

No signup and nothing burned into your video. You get a plain text file.

Who it's for

  • YouTubers and course makers

Upload the SRT to YouTube or your course platform so viewers can switch captions on.

  • Editors

Import the file in your editor and style the captions there.

  • Anyone who posts with the sound off

Most short video is watched muted. Captions keep it readable.

Ideas and uses

What the example shows

The example above is the real output of this tool for a 15 second ad made with Ziztu. Choose Download and Subtitles to save it as an SRT. Each cue holds one phrase, the time it starts and the time it ends. That is the whole SRT format.

What is in an SRT file

An SRT file is plain text. Each subtitle is a number, a line with the start and end time (hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds), and the text. A blank line separates them. A VTT file is the same idea for web players: it starts with the word WEBVTT and uses a dot instead of a comma in the times.

You can open either in a text editor and fix a word. Both formats are free to use and are read by almost every video editor and player.

Check the lines before you use them

Speech to text is good, not perfect. Names, brand words and jargon are the usual mistakes, and music can blur a line. Skim the transcript and fix what you see. For a video that is already online, you can get its captions with the YouTube transcript generator. To read a file without making subtitles, use the video to text converter.

Frequently asked questions

Is this SRT generator free?

Yes. There is no signup, no card and no watermark. You can make 5 files a day without an account and 20 with a free one.

How do I make an SRT file from a video?

Upload the video, press Make subtitles, then choose Download and Subtitles (.srt). The file has every line with its start and end time.

Can I make an SRT from audio only?

Yes. MP3, WAV and M4A work the same way as a video.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

Both are plain text subtitle files. SRT is read by most editors and by YouTube. VTT is the standard for web video players. This tool gives you both.

Does it burn the subtitles into the video?

No. You get a subtitle file, which is what editors, YouTube and most players want. Burning captions into a video is done in your editor.

How long can the file be?

Up to 10 minutes and 60 MB. Cut a longer recording into parts and make one file for each.

Do you keep my video?

No. The file is deleted when the job ends.

Free, no account needed. Files up to 10 minutes and 60 MB. 5 files a day without an account, 20 with a free one.
