Shot List Generator
A free shot list generator. Paste a scene or describe the day and get a shot list example made for your story: numbered shots with size, angle, movement, subject, action, sound and time.
Describe the scene or the day and press Make the shot list.
How it works
- 01
Paste the scene
A paragraph of your script, or one sentence about the day. Names, places and props you give are kept in every shot.
- 02
Pick the job and the length
A film scene, a wedding, a photo shoot or a YouTube video, and 6, 10, 15 or 25 shots.
- 03
Copy it or board it
Copy the list, download it as a CSV, or open it in the studio as a script you can storyboard and turn into film.
What you get
Made for your scene
Not a blank grid. Every shot comes from what you wrote, in the order you would shoot or cut it, with a wide to open and inserts where the story turns.
Film, wedding, photo or video
A film scene gets camera moves and sound. A wedding or a photo shoot gets moments, poses and notes for the crew. A YouTube video gets A cam, B cam and inserts.
Opens in a spreadsheet
Copy it, or download a CSV for Excel and Google Sheets, or a Markdown table. 3 lists a day with no account, 20 with a free one.
Who it's for
Directors and filmmakers
Plan coverage for a scene before the day: what is wide, what is close, where the camera moves, what is heard.
Wedding photographers and videographers
Turn the running order into a list of moments, poses and notes you can share with the second shooter.
YouTubers and small crews
Decide which shots are A cam, which are B cam and which are inserts before you press record.
What the example shows
The first example above is a real result of this tool for a ten shot scene: a night-market cook and a silent stranger. Nothing was edited after it came back.
Look at how the sizes change from shot to shot. It opens wide, comes in to the faces, cuts to an insert of the note and ends wide again. Press one of the other examples to see a wedding day, a product shoot and a desk review built the same way.
Shot list format: what each column means
- Shot. The number, in the order you shoot or cut.
- Size. How much is in the frame: extreme wide, wide, medium, close-up, insert.
- Angle. Where the camera is: eye level, low, high, overhead, over the shoulder.
- Movement. Static, pan, push in, track, handheld. For stills, the pose to ask for.
- Subject and action. Who or what is in the frame and what happens, in one plain sentence a camera could see.
- Audio. Dialogue, a sound or a music cue. For a wedding or a shoot, a note for the crew.
- Duration. How long it holds on screen, or the time to allow on the day.
That is the whole format. A short list a crew can read at a glance beats a long one nobody opens.
A wedding shot list for photographers
Choose Wedding and the list is grouped by moment: getting ready, first look, ceremony, portraits, reception. Each shot says who to ask and where to stand, and mixes wide scene-setters with family and couple portraits and details such as rings, shoes and flowers.
Type the day as you know it ("outdoor ceremony at 4 pm, two sets of grandparents, first dance at the barn") and the list follows your running order. People are named by role, never by an invented name, so you can send it to a second shooter as it is.
From a shot list to a storyboard
Open the shots in the studio as a script. Each shot becomes a line you can storyboard, then turn into film.
Open the AI Script WriterIf you only need a blank grid to fill in by hand, use the shot list template, which has a filled 30 second example. To see the shots drawn, use the AI storyboard generator. To write the scene first, use the AI script writer.
Frequently asked questions
Is this shot list generator free?
Yes. You can make 3 shot lists a day without an account and 20 a day with a free one. Longer work in the AI Script Writer is priced in credits, and the price shows before you run it. New accounts also get 40 free trial credits to try the rest of Ziztu.
What is a shot list?
A shot list is a numbered list of every shot you plan to capture, in order. Each line says how the shot is framed, where the camera is, what is in it and what happens. Directors, camera crews and editors use it so nothing is missed on the day.
How do I make a shot list?
Break the scene into moments, then cover each moment with a wide, a closer shot and an insert where something small matters. Put the shots in order, give each a size, an angle and one action, and add the sound. This tool does that from a paragraph, and you can edit the result.
What should a shot list include?
At least the shot number, the size, the angle, the movement, what is in the frame and what happens. Most crews add the audio and the time. A film shot list often adds the lens and the location; a wedding shot list adds who to ask and where to stand.
Can I make a shot list from a script?
Yes. Paste a scene from your script into the box, up to 1,500 characters, and choose Film scene. The list follows the scene beat by beat. For a longer script, run it one scene at a time.
Is there a shot list template for Excel or Google Sheets?
Download your result as a CSV and open it in Excel or Google Sheets: each part of a shot is its own column. For a blank template to fill in by hand, see the shot list template page.
Does it work as a wedding shot list for a photographer?
Yes. Choose Wedding and describe the day. The list is grouped by moment and each shot has a pose to ask for and a note for the crew. Check it against what the couple asked for before the day.
What is the difference between a shot list and a storyboard?
A shot list is words in a table: what each shot is. A storyboard is the same shots drawn. Many crews make the shot list first and draw only the shots that need it. You can turn a shot list into a storyboard in the studio.
