How it works

  1. 01

    Describe the movie

A line or two about who it follows and what goes wrong. Names, places and endings you give stay exactly as written.

  2. 02

Pick a genre and a length

A feature film or a short, and a genre if you want its rules: a thriller keeps a secret, a comedy escalates.

  3. 03

Read the plan and the pages

The outline and the opening scenes appear as they are written. Download them, or continue in the AI Script Writer to write on.

What you get

The whole shape of the movie

A logline, then the beats every story needs from the opening image to the final image, each tied to the one before it.

Real pages, not a summary

The opening two or three scenes are written in screenplay format, so you can judge the voice and the pace of the script.

Who it's for

  • Writers testing an idea

See whether a premise holds up across a whole movie before you spend a month on it.

  • Screenwriting students

Compare your own outline with one that follows the usual turning points, and see what the opening pages should do.

  • Producers and directors

Get a one-page plan and a sample of the pages for a pitch or a first conversation with a writer.

What the example shows

The example above is a real result of this tool, written from the idea in the box. Nothing was edited after it came back.

The outline is short on purpose: one sentence for each turning point, each caused by the one before. The opening pages show the voice the rest of the script could take, and plant the object that comes back changed in the final image.

What the outline contains

The outline uses seven beats that nearly every feature film hits, in the order they come:

  • Opening image. The first picture of the movie. It should say who the main character is and what is wrong with their life.
  • Catalyst. The event that breaks the old life open, about a tenth of the way in.
  • Break into two. The choice to go after the problem, around the end of the first act.
  • Midpoint. A reversal in the middle that raises the stakes or changes what the character believes they are doing.
  • All is lost. The lowest point, where the plan fails.
  • Finale. The character uses what they learned to face the problem.
  • Final image. The last picture, which answers the opening one.

From the plan to a whole script

Continue in the AI Script Writer: the outline and the opening pages open in the screenplay editor of a studio project.

Open the AI Script Writer

This tool writes the plan and the first pages, not a full 90 page script, and says so. The rest is written in the AI Script Writer: you keep the outline, write the next scene yourself or with Script chat, and ask the AI Script Doctor for notes when a scene is not working. Work there is priced in credits, and the price shows before you run it.

Getting a better movie plan

  • Say who wants what. "A retired safecracker is hired to break into the vault she once built" gives the writer a person, a want and an obstacle. "A heist movie" gives it nothing to build on.
  • Give it one fact only you know. A name, a place or an object makes the pages specific. Everything you give is kept as written.
  • Pick a genre when you want its rules. A thriller withholds and then uses information. A comedy sets a rule and escalates. Leave it on any genre to let the idea decide.
  • Run it more than once. Each run is a different version. Keep the beat you like from one and the opening image from another.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI movie script generator free?

Yes. You can write 3 movie plans a day without an account and 20 a day with a free one. Longer work in the AI Script Writer is priced in credits, and the price shows before you run it. New accounts also get 40 free trial credits to try the rest of Ziztu.

Can it write a full-length movie script?

Not in one go. This tool writes the logline, a seven-beat outline and the opening pages, about two pages of screenplay. A feature is around 90 pages, so the rest is written scene by scene in the AI Script Writer, where you can use Script chat and the AI Script Doctor.

Does it copy existing movies?

No. It writes new text from your idea and is told not to reuse existing characters or scenes. AI text can still resemble things that exist, so read the result with that in mind before you use it.

What structure does the outline follow?

Seven beats from the usual three-act movie structure: opening image, catalyst, break into two, midpoint, all is lost, finale and final image. They are a guide, not a law, and the best scripts bend them.

Who owns the script?

You do, as far as the law and the model providers' terms allow (see the Terms of service). Check that you have the rights you need before you use it commercially. Ziztu does not train AI models on your content.

Can I write a short film instead of a feature?

Yes. Choose Short film and the plan is scaled to about ten pages: fewer characters, fewer places and one central pressure.

Can it write in other languages?

Yes. It writes in the language of your idea. The scene headings keep the INT. and EXT. convention.

Free: 3 movie plans a day without an account, 20 with one.
