Is Leonardo AI free?
Yes. The Free plan is $0 a month with 150 fast tokens a day. Free creations are public, which means other people can see what you make, and quality settings are basic. Private creations start on Essential.
The pricing page states no commercial terms for the Free plan, so read Leonardo's terms before using free results in client work. Prices on the page are listed ex. tax, and a yearly plan is "up to 20 percent off".
What Leonardo tokens and "unlimited" mean
Leonardo's page lists tokens a month for each plan and a "token bank" figure beside it: 8,500 tokens and a 25,500 token bank on Essential, 25,000 and 75,000 on Premium, 60,000 and 180,000 on Ultimate. It does not list how many tokens one image or video costs, so this page does not put a per-result price on Leonardo. See their pricing page or the app for that.
What the page does state is where tokens are not needed. Premium and Ultimate include unlimited image generation at a relaxed pace for select models, and Ultimate adds unlimited relaxed video for select models. The page lists them as Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism, Phoenix 1.0 and 0.9, MiniMax H3 (480p, Accelerated or Turbo), Motion 1.0, Motion 2.0 and 2.0 Fast, Hailuo 2.3 and 2.3 Fast, and Wan 2.6. Relaxed generations can be slowed when demand is high.
Leonardo and Ziztu: what you get for the price
Because Leonardo lists no tokens per result, a cost per image is not possible from its page. Here is what each plan price buys instead, with Ziztu's from its rate card (Starter is $12 for 1,000 credits).

Where Leonardo wins: a free daily allowance that refills, and on Premium and Ultimate unlimited relaxed generations for select models, which cost nothing per result. If you make many images or H3 480p clips at a relaxed pace, that is hard to beat on price.
