The template

An isekai first episode has one job: get a person from our world into another one and make the new world feel worth a second episode. The example, Wrong Turn to Cloudhaven, does it in six beats.

How to fill it in

  1. 01

Pick the hero and the two worlds

Give her one job, one look detail and a place in our world. Then give the new world one sentence and one power she gains.

  2. 02

    Choose the rule

A single rule with a clock, such as one delivery before sunset, gives every later scene a reason to move.

  3. 03

    Fill the six beats

Keep our world short, make the arrival big, add one fun first win and end on a question the second episode answers.

What makes it work

Skip the long setup

Twenty seconds of the old life is enough. The viewer came for the other world.

Show the new world's personality

A dragon that steals pancakes tells us more about Cloudhaven than a paragraph of world-building.

End on a personal question

A parcel addressed to the hero is a stronger hook than a monster, because it is about her.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first episode of an isekai?

The hero leaves our world, arrives in another, learns what they can do there and meets the first friends or problems. A good first episode also sets a rule or a goal and ends on a question.

How do I start an isekai story?

Start with a short scene in our world, move the hero with a single event, show the new world in one big image, then give them a rule or goal. Keep the first episode light unless the tone is dark.

Does an isekai need a death or a truck?

No. Heroes can fall through a door, ride into a fog or answer a message. The example here uses a wrong turn, which is faster and funnier.

Is the example a real anime?

No. Wrong Turn to Cloudhaven is a concept for this page. The frames are made in Ziztu with invented characters and no franchise characters.

Can I make the first episode with AI?

Yes. Press Use this template to open the idea box with the episode written out, or try one shot in the anime video generator. In Studio you plan every shot and keep the cast the same.

Is the template free?

Yes. Copy it as text, download it as a Markdown file or print it to PDF without an account.
