The best AI storyboard generator depends on where the storyboard goes next. If it goes to a client for approval, Boords. If it should become a video in the same app, LTX Studio. If you start from a script and need the same characters in every panel, Katalist or Laper. For a fast six panel board of one scene with real coverage, Ziztu's AI storyboard generator, which we make, so weigh that entry accordingly. Every price below was read on each tool's official pricing page on 11 October 2026.
What makes a storyboard generator good
A storyboard is a plan for the camera, not a set of pretty pictures. We looked at four things:
- Coverage. Does the tool vary the shots (a wide, an insert, a reverse angle, a close-up), or does it draw the same framing six times?
- Characters. Do faces and outfits hold across panels?
- Script in, board out. Can it start from your screenplay, and what can you export?
- Free start and price. What you can make before paying, and what a plan buys.

The list
1. Boords: best for client approvals
Boords is built around the client side of pre-production: write scripts, make storyboards, then present them and collect feedback and sign-off in one place.
- Plans: Solo $39 a month ($26 billed yearly) with 250 AI images a month; Pro $75 ($50 yearly) for up to 5 users and 1,000 AI images; Team $125 ($85 yearly); Agency $250 ($165 yearly).
- Free: 5 active storyboards, 3 active scripts and 8 one-off sample AI image credits, no card.
- Limits: AI images are capped by plan; video is not the focus.
2. LTX Studio: best when the storyboard becomes video
LTX Studio takes a project from storyboard to generated video in one app, with its own LTX models and outside ones.
- Plans: Lite $15 a month ($12 yearly) with 8,000 credits; Standard $35 ($28 yearly) with 28,000 credits, AI Storyboards, Pitch Decks, Kling and Seedance models and a commercial license; Pro $125 ($100 yearly) adds Veo 3.1.
- Free: 800 one-time credits and blank storyboards, with a personal use license.
- Limits: AI Storyboards start on the Standard plan.
3. Katalist: best for script to storyboard with consistent characters
Katalist turns a script into storyboard frames with consistent characters, an AI script assistant and voiceover.
- Plans: Essential $19 a month with 200 image credits, 700 video credits and 1 custom character; Pro $39 with 10 custom characters and a Premiere Pro integration; Unlimited $99 with unlimited images and 2 seats.
- Free: a 7 day free trial on each plan.
- Limits: project and character caps on the lower plans.
4. Laper: best for screenwriters who board from the script
Laper is an AI screenwriting workspace. Its storyboard view keeps shots attached to the scenes they come from, in panel, table and canvas views, and generates images from the shot records.
- Plans: Senior $20 a month with 500 AI chats and 600 generation credits; Elite $60; Master $100 with unlimited chats; Legend $400.
- Free: the Junior plan, with 10 AI chats a month, 10 daily credits and 2 screenplay and 2 film projects.
- Limits: a full writing tool; heavier than you need for one quick board.
5. Ziztu: best for a quick board with real coverage
Ziztu's AI storyboard generator turns one scene into a six panel 16:9 sheet that follows the rules storyboard artists use: an establishing shot from high up, a medium shot at eye level, an insert with no face, a reverse angle, a close-up at the turning point and a closing wide. No two panels share the same size and angle, and nobody looks into the lens. Four looks: pencil, ink and marker, color anime or cinematic color.
- Price: 38 credits a board (Nano Banana Pro at 2K); plans start at $12 a month for 1,000 credits.
- Free: new accounts get 40 credits, enough for one board (with a watermark).
- Script to film: in the AI Script Writer, script to film turns each scene of a screenplay into a shot plan with sizes, angles and camera moves.
- Limits: one scene and six panels per board; characters stay close across panels but are not locked; no client review or PDF deck.
6. Storyboarder: best free tool for drawing your own
Storyboarder from Wonder Unit is a free, open source drawing tool for storyboards, for Mac, Windows and Linux, and it works with Fountain scripts.
- Price: free.
- Limits: no AI: you draw every panel yourself, which is exactly the point for many artists.
