Writing ad copy for each platform
Each ad platform has its own format and character limits, and copy that works on one often fails on another. Meta ads rely on the primary text and a short headline to stop a scroll; Google Search ads must pack the value proposition into two 30-character headlines and a 90-character description; TikTok captions sit below a video and should reinforce the hook shown in the first three seconds of the clip.
The AI ad copy generator validates every output against the current limits for each platform. A Meta headline over 40 characters is rejected and rewritten; a Google headline over 30 characters is trimmed. You always get copy that will not be truncated by the platform.
Hooks, headlines and CTAs
Every set of ad copy contains four elements:
- Hook: the opening line that earns the click or the stop. On Meta, the hook is the first sentence of the primary text. On TikTok, it should match the first three seconds of the video. On Google, the hook is the first headline.
- Headline: the most visible line, shown in link previews on Meta and in the bold text on Google. Short, specific and relevant to the search term or the scroll context.
- Primary text / description: the fuller explanation, within the character limit for the platform.
- CTA: a short action phrase that tells the viewer what to do next. "Try it free", "See the deal", "Get started today".
Tips for better ad copy
- Be specific about the benefit. "Cuts noise by 40 dB" is better than "great for focus". Numbers and specifics earn trust.
- Name the audience. "For remote workers who need focus" targets better than "for everyone".
- One idea per ad. The best ads make one clear point. Use the AI to generate three variations on three different angles, then test them.
- Match the landing page. The headline should match what the user sees when they click. A bait-and-switch raises bounce rates and lowers ad quality scores.
- Review before running. AI copy is a draft. Check for brand voice, factual accuracy, and compliance with the platform's content policies before paying to run it.
Ad disclosure and AI-generated copy
The EU AI Act (effective August 2026) requires transparency for AI-generated content, and Meta and TikTok both have labeling requirements for realistic AI-generated media. Plain text ad copy does not currently trigger these rules, but copy that includes a synthetic spokesperson or AI-generated voice does. Check the relevant platform policies and your local legal requirements before using any AI-generated media in a paid ad campaign.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI ad copy generator?
An AI ad copy generator uses a language model to write advertising text: hooks, headlines, primary text and calls to action. You describe your product and audience, choose a platform, and the AI produces copy that fits that platform's character limits and ad format.
Which platforms does this support?
Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google Search and TikTok. Each platform has its own character limits and formats; the generator validates every output against them before returning results.
Are the character limits accurate?
Yes. Meta headlines are capped at 40 characters, primary text at 500 (with the first 125 visible before "See more"), and CTA phrases at 25. Google Search headlines are capped at 30 and descriptions at 90. TikTok captions and headlines are capped at 100 characters. Platform rules change; check the platform's own ads help for the latest.
Can I use the output directly in my ads?
Yes, as a starting point. Review the copy, check it fits your brand voice, and test two or three variations. The AI produces a draft; you refine it.
How many generations can I do for free?
You can generate up to 3 sets of ad copy per day before signing in. After signing in, each generation uses a small number of credits from your account.
What model does it use?
The generator uses a fast, low-cost language model (claude-haiku-5.5 via OpenRouter). It is optimized for short, punchy ad copy rather than long-form writing.
Does it follow Meta and TikTok ad rules?
The generator follows format rules (character limits, copy structure). It does not verify legal compliance or platform content policies. Review your copy against Meta's Advertising Policies and TikTok's Advertising Guidelines before running any ad. The EU AI Act (from August 2026) and FTC rules require disclosure when AI-generated content features synthetic performers; those rules do not apply to ad copy itself, but consult a legal advisor for your specific case.
Can I generate copy for product video ads?
Yes. Describe the video concept and the product, pick the platform, and the generator writes hooks, captions and CTAs for that video. To turn the concept into a real video ad, use the video ad maker (coming soon).
