Genshin Impact design rules: matching your character to their nation
Genshin Impact characters are visually rooted in their region. The outfit, color palette and accessory design all signal where a character is from before they say a word. Here are the key principles per region:
- Mondstadt: flowing, natural aesthetics. Blues, whites and greens. Windmill motifs, feathers and light fabrics. Characters feel free and unrestrained.
- Liyue: traditional Chinese-influenced design. Gold, red, dark jade and rich earth tones. Cloud, jade and coin motifs. More structured and formal than Mondstadt.
- Inazuma: Japanese-inspired. Crisp lines, kimono and hakama elements, lightning bolt motifs in the Vision. Navy, purple, white and red dominate.
- Sumeru: desert and forest duality. Green, gold and terracotta for the forest; sandy yellow and burnt orange for the desert. Vine, lotus and eye-of-knowledge motifs.
- Fontaine: Parisian and steampunk Victorian. Blues, blacks and silver. Gears, water droplets and court fashion. Characters feel precise and theatrical.
- Vision accessories: the Vision (elemental gem) matches the element color and appears on belts, brooches, headpieces or carried as a pendant. It should be visible but not overwhelming.
Frequently asked questions

Yes, for non-commercial fan projects. Genshin fan games and fan-made quests are created in the community. Use original assets, not HoYoverse's official models or music, and include a disclaimer that the work is unofficial.
Can I use my Genshin OC in fan comics?
Yes. Fan comics, doujinshi and web comics featuring Genshin characters are popular in the community. Keep the work non-commercial and label it as fan-made.
