Murder Drones OC archetype guide
Murder Drones characters exist at the intersection of survival horror and dark comedy. These 12 archetypes map the range of roles in the series' world.
- The Hopeful Survivor - a WD who keeps believing things can improve despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
- The Ruthless Hunter - a DD focused entirely on the mission, sees emotion as a malfunction.
- The Glitching Outcast - corrupted enough to be feared by both sides, searching for what they used to be.
- The Reluctant Protector - does not want to care about anyone, and fails at not caring consistently.
- The Corrupted Soldier - was once loyal to the Solver, now fragmented and working against it without fully understanding why.
- The Naive Newcomer - just activated or arrived, still processing what the surface of Copper-9 actually is.
- The Veteran Scavenger - has survived by knowing exactly what to take, when to fight and when to hide.
- The Quiet Observer - collects data, rarely speaks, understands more than anyone realizes.
- The Unstable One - corruption is advancing and they know it, trying to do something useful while they still can.
- The Secret Keeper - holds information that would change everything, and has reasons not to share it yet.
- The Loyal Follower - bound to one person or mission above all else, will not deviate even when they should.
- The Last Resort - a desperate gamble, the final option, built or adapted for a situation no one expected to survive.
Murder Drones design rules: building a drone that fits the world
Murder Drones has a distinctive industrial-cyberpunk visual style with strong rules about how drones look and what their appearance communicates. Here are the key design principles:
- Monochrome base with color accents: all drones have a black and dark grey chassis as the base. The accent color is a key personality signal: cyan suggests the WD default state, yellow suggests a different function, red suggests danger or aggression. The accent appears in the visor, seams and any glowing elements.
- Visor as face: the visor is everything. It is how the drone shows emotion, and its state tells you how stable they are. Clean X eyes suggest a functional WD. Fractured or glitching visors suggest instability. A custom symbol suggests modification and individuality.
- Worker versus Disassembly silhouettes: WDs are smaller and more compact, built for labor and survival. DDs are larger and more angular, built for combat and pursuit. The silhouette immediately communicates which type you are looking at.
- Industrial decay: dents, scratches, oil stains and missing panels are part of the aesthetic, especially for characters who have been on Copper-9 for a long time. Too pristine looks wrong for the setting.
- Corruption as visual disruption: solver corruption appears as dark, organic-looking growths or cracks with a darker substance beneath. It disrupts the clean industrial design and suggests something fundamentally wrong with the underlying systems.
