What Midjourney is for

Midjourney is known for its own image models with a strong artistic look, used from its website or from Discord, and it can turn images into short videos. Its plans are billed by GPU time, from the official plan pages on 11 October 2026:

  • Basic: $10 a month or $96 a year, 3.3 hours of fast GPU time a month, SD video
  • Standard: $30 a month or $288 a year, 15 hours, unlimited relaxed images, SD and HD video
  • Pro: $60 a month or $576 a year, 30 hours, unlimited relaxed images and SD video, Stealth Mode
  • Mega: $120 a month or $1,152 a year, 60 hours
  • Companies with more than $1,000,000 in yearly revenue must use Pro or Mega

Why people look for an alternative

  • No free trial on the website or Discord. Midjourney's docs say the only trial is a limited one in the niji journey app.
  • One family of models. Some jobs, such as readable text in a poster or a photo edit that keeps a face, are better on other models.
  • Images are the start of a project. Creators who want to animate the picture, add a voice or cut a video want those steps in the same place.
  • Companies over $1 million in revenue must use the Pro or Mega plan.

The alternatives

Ziztu gives one credit balance for several image models: Meta Muse for fast drafts (3 credits an image, so the 40 trial credits make about 13), Seedream 5, GPT Image 2.5 for exact layouts, Nano Banana Pro for edits that keep a person recognizable, and Ideogram for lettering. Free tools such as the anime image creator and the cartoon generator run on them, and image to video turns a picture into a clip.

Runway pairs image models with its video tools.

  • Free: $0, 125 one-time credits
  • Standard: $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, 625 credits a month (52 seconds of Gen-4.5), no watermarks
  • Pro: $35 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly, 2,250 credits a month
  • Max: $95 a month, or $76 a month billed yearly, 9,500 credits a month, unused credits roll over for a month
  • Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits a second (60 credits for 5 seconds); the plans also include other models such as Kling 3.0 and Nano Banana Pro

Pika offers outside image and video models with credit packs, and a free plan without monthly credits.

  • Free: $0, no monthly credits (credit packs only), all models, no watermark, no commercial license
  • Starter: $10 a month, or $8 a month billed yearly, 900 credits a month, no commercial license
  • Creator: $35 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly, 3,150 credits a month, commercial license
  • Fancy: $95 to $880 a month ($76 to $704 billed yearly), 8,550 credits a month and up
  • Credit packs: 60 credits per $1; a 5 second 720p Seedance 2.5 video is 122 credits, a 5 second 720p Wan 3.0 video 33 credits

Hailuo, MiniMax's app, includes unlimited use of several image models on its Pro plan and up, next to its H3 video models.

  • Free: $0, one-time free trial credits, Hailuo models only
  • Standard: $8.40 a month billed yearly ($100.80 a year), 1,000 credits a month
  • Pro: $30.40 a month billed yearly ($364.80 a year), 4,500 credits a month
  • Master: $71.20 a month billed yearly ($854.40 a year), 10,500 credits a month
  • Max: $184 a month billed yearly ($2,208 a year), 27,000 credits a month
  • On Standard, MiniMax H3 at 768P works out to $0.059 a second

How to choose

If you love Midjourney's look and only need stills, stay with it. If you want to try before paying, pick a tool with free credits. If your images are first frames for videos, choose a tool that animates them in the same place, so you do not download and upload between apps. For anime and storyboard frames, the prompts in the anime scene library work in any image model.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Midjourney alternative?

Yes, with limits. Ziztu gives new accounts 40 free credits (about 13 Meta Muse images, with a watermark), Runway gives 125 one-time credits, and Hailuo gives one-time trial credits. Midjourney itself has no free trial on its website or Discord.

How much does Midjourney cost?

On 11 October 2026 Midjourney's docs listed Basic at $10 a month, Standard at $30, Pro at $60 and Mega at $120, or 20% less billed yearly ($96, $288, $576 and $1,152 a year).

What is the best Midjourney alternative for anime?

Any strong image model can do anime if the prompt describes the look: clean line art, flat cel shading, a hand-painted background. Ziztu's free anime image creator is built for it, and the anime scene library has prompts with the camera and light written out.

Can I turn Midjourney images into video?

Midjourney can animate its own images on its plans. You can also upload any image you own to an image to video tool, such as Ziztu's, and describe the motion and the camera move.

Which alternative is best for text in images?

Models built for typography, such as Ideogram or GPT Image 2.5, place readable text far more reliably than general art models. Both are available on Ziztu.
